Taj Mahal and Rain

May 22, 2008

Im in Agra. Just saw the TM in the rain, surreal. All the pictures of it you see are when it is a perfect blue sky and sunny. Never mind!

Well not long left here now. Delhi is crazy, might just hibernate in the hotel for the last couple of days.  I have seen everything i want to see here.

I know i look cold, wet, tired and unhappy but i was ecstatic at that moment. Honest. I am just very good at hiding my emotions.

Tiger Time

May 22, 2008

Caught a government bus from Pushkar to Sawai Madhopur. It didnt have air conditioning and it was 48 degrees. And there were alot of locals staring at us. 9 hours. Grim. Stayed in an average hotel with a/c so actuyally slept. The next day we set off in the mid-day sun in an open top jeep, literally no protection from tigers at all. We drove around for 3 and half hours looking for a tiger but they were nowhere to be seen. Suddenly we heard a shout from another jeep and i realised that it was all going to be worth it; the long bus, the rubbish city we were staying in, the intense heat, the extortianate price and hours of looking at deer i could see near my house. While we sped over to the other jeep  I wondered how close it would be, how many cubs it would have,  if i  could use the zoom to get a picture of it eye’s, if i was going to be in any danger because it might be quite close?! The  picture was as follows

Yeh it tooke me 5 minutes to find it aswell. But it was a good trip, saw some croc’s kill a dear and rip it apart in the water. Nice scenery as well.

The Pink City

May 20, 2008

Just arrived in Jaipur. After another load of terrible hotels i was extremely tempted to check into quite a nice hotel with a/c, no bed bugs, not many other insects, non concrete pillow, shower and tv, but thought “when in rome…” so im staying in a slum.

I have found an internet cafe but there are no usb ports so i cant upload any pictures. When i asked the guy, optomistically, about connecting my camera he didnt fully understand and rambled on about how he had recently upgraded all the computers in the cybercafe to windows 95 and he is hoping to get a few floppy disk drives installed in the future…

I am moving onto Agra tomorrow to see the taj mahal as i dont fancy sticking around here. The taj mahal is the only thing left in India i want to see, apart from Delhi airport.

Pictures in a couple of days

One Week down, 90 out of pocket

May 17, 2008

So its cheap here but you do get what you pay for. The cows amazed me, maybe the best thing about udaipur.

Left Udaipur and came to Pushkar. The main attraction is the lake, its not that great, i’ve seen bigger puddles. Sorry to kill the dream.

Going to a tiger reserve tomorrow. Good pictures should follow. But apparently the tiger’s are dying out because all the rangers are poaching them :s there is only about 20 left by they are friendly…apparently.

“Welcome to India. Its filthy”

Horn OK Please

May 13, 2008

Left Mumbai yesterday, absolute shit hole. Hot, smelly, dirty, nothing to do. Dirty. Caught a sleeper bus to Udaipur, Rajasthan. It took 17 hours and the “cabin”/ bed was about 40cmx40cmx50cm. Worth it to get out of Mumbai though. Udaipur is a little bit cooler, smaller and less busy. It seems like real India. Cows everywhere.

The back of one of the many trucks we passed yesterday on the bus, they actively encourage beeping. The horns are elaborate as well, some sound out theme tunes and songs. Thought i heard the Match of the Day theme song at one point… but that might have been due to the lack of sleep. Crazy drivers and bad roads.

Udaipur is where octopussy was filmed and they show it everynight at 7pm EVERYWHERE. A few temples and a lake. Not much else…

 Hotel on the lake

Heading to Pushkar either tomorrow or the day after

It Begins

So here i am.

my life

Checked into the salvation army hostel in Mumbai. Greeted by bed bugs, cockroaches, theft and junkies.  Other than that i felt right at home.
